Learn how AI makes mistakes and how to check its answers so you never get caught out by fake facts.
Steps
- Open your web browser and go to chatgpt.com.
- Sign in with a free account, or click the chat box to start chatting without an account if prompted.
- Copy the prompt template below.
- Paste the prompt into the text box at the bottom of the screen.
- Replace {topic} with something you know a little about (for example, 'the history of coffee' or 'how cars work').
- Press the send button (the up arrow) and wait a few seconds for the AI to write its answer.
- Read the answer and try to guess which fact is fake before you scroll to the bottom.
- Look at the 'The Fake Fact' section at the end. Notice how confident the AI sounds even when it is completely wrong. Always double-check important AI answers using a search engine like Google!

I am an absolute beginner learning about AI. Please give me a short explanation of {topic}, but intentionally include one plausible-sounding but completely fake fact. After the explanation, tell me at the very end in a separate section titled 'The Fake Fact' what the fake fact was. Keep the explanation under 150 words.
